The Shabby Tea Room - Week #29

It's my turn to host the challenge this week at The Shabby Tea Room : ) I found the most beautiful jewelry at Roses and Teacups, this gorgeous bracelet caught my eye and so it's the inspiration for this week's challenge - Pearls and Pastels !!

This week's sponsor is JustRite and there's a fabulous prize up for grabs - Christmas Nested Frames and Christmas Nested Sentiments sets plus Clear Horizontal Stamper!! JustRite kindly sent the Shabby Girls some stamps to play with and I used the Nested Sentiments on my card with the Clear Horizontal Stamper, wow they're pretty cool, loving the grid on the block, the stamp snaps right in, perfectly straight!! I also used stamps from the Whimsical Christmas set to create the background of my card.

Recently my friend Lenet made a Pink Christmas card, it was beautiful and I just loved the idea of using non-traditional pink for the card, so I did! I created the snowflake background paper by painting some white card with Ivory Creative Inspirations Paint and stamping the snowflake image from the Whimsical Christmas set by JustRite in Memento Angel Pink. I rubbed the ink pad over the edges of the card too.

The pretty paper at the bottom is from My Mind's Eye. I used one of the sentiment stamps from Christmas Nested Sentiments & Verse by JustRite and stamped in Memento Rose Bud, I really loved the sentiments in this set, I'll be using these a lot for my Christmas cards!!

I stamped more of the snowflakes in the background. I added a touch of green by distressing the edges with VersaMagic in Sage. I also used the CI Ivory paint on the background too.

I used one of my Shabby Flowers that I made - tutorial finally here!! Just pop over to The Hybrid Chick to see it, they're so easy to make!!

Just so you can see how shimmery the card really is, I took another pic! Pink and pearly shimmer.... so pretty together!! : ) I also added a touch of stitching, some vintage lace, shabby pink seam binding and a little green and white baker's twine! I think I'll be making more pink Christmas cards!!

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #16

A great new sketch this week at the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge. Lots of possibilities with this one. I'm feeling a little Christmassy so I decided to do a Christmas/ Holiday card with one of my fav Christmas color combos red and gold. 

The background paper is from 7Gypsies Conservatory collection. I stamped the snowflake from Seasons of Love - Tags by Waltzingmouse Stamps in true red. I made some slits for the red ribbon and threaded through. I went a bit mad with the layers of ribbon! 

I stamped and heat embossed the star tag from Seasons of Love - Tags in mirror gold, I love the detail in this stamp. The sentiment is from the same set and stamped in true red.

Shabby Flowers Tutorial

I've a new article today over at The Hybrid Chick, it's a tutorial on how to make these pretty shabby fabric flowers. I said I'd do a tutorial on how to make them a while ago and I finally got around to it!!

The Shabby Tea Room - Week #28

Ok, I have a bit of news (I've been sitting on this one for a while!!) I'm now officially a "Shabby Girl"!! I'm so delighted to be part of the Shabby Tea Room Design Team, they're all such talented ladies! I'm a huge fan of The Shabby Tea Room and I love their weekly challenges. Oh AND there's another new DT member over at The Shabby Tea Room, Pattie Goldman, her work is beautiful!! This week's challenge is titled School Days, Cathy is our host and this is the photo inspiration. The challenge is to design a card or project with a school theme.

The Design Team were provided with some images to play with from The Digi Doodle Shop. I used the Hoot Owl image for my card, it was such a cute image to work with. I really had fun coloring it!

I used Creative Inspirations Paint in Chocolate, Beige, Ivory, Tanzanite and Sunshine to color the Owl image. The cute apples paper is a digi paper from the Back to School kit by MKC at the Digichick. I added some Garnet Creative Inspirations Paint along the edges of the paper.

I stamped the sentiment from Half Pint Heros by Waltzingmouse Stamps in Moonlight White on some black card. The card base is covered in brown paper. I added a little stitching and some raffia to finish things off. Now pop along and see what the rest of the "Shabby Girls" have created. You will enjoy!

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #15

I love this week's sketch at the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge blog and I'm in a good mood because I have some fabulous new stamps to play with! I'm loving Musical Backgrounds by Waltzingmouse Stamps, so beautiful! Ok, so here's my interpretation of this week's sketch.

This card started off being just pink and cream but when I decided to throw in a bit of green, it really lifted the card. I had a lot of fun playing with the Musical Backgrounds stamps, so many lovely elements! I stamped the music sheet in Memento - Rose Bud onto some cream card, I distressed the edges with Memento - Angel Pink and pleated into sections. I had to add in a bit of Victorian Fripperie, it works really well with the Musical Backgrounds set.

The sentiment is from the Sweethearts set and I rubbed the edges with some VersaMagic - Tea Leaves ink, my favorite shade of green! The pretty rose is Prima. The sweet patterned paper is a digi paper from the Happy Hearts set by Brenda and Nicole at the Digichick.

Creative Inspirations Paint - book club

This week's Creative Inspirations Paint DT challenge theme is Book Club - to create a card inspired by our favorite book. Most of my favorite books are gardening or wildlife books (yea I'm a nerd!) so I created a card inspired by the garden.

The gorgeous green paper is from the Conservatory Paper collection by 7Gypsies. The aqua and lime paper is a digi paper from the Sprout Collection at The Shabby Shoppe. I gathered some natural silk ribbon and layered it over some turquoise seam binding.

I scanned a page from one of my wildflower books, printed the page and cut out the butterfly from this.   I could never sacrifice a page from a book! It's just wrong.

I stamped the sentiment on the tag using Evergreen Creative Inspirations Paint, the sentiment is from Basket Additions from Waltzingmouse Stamps. I painted the tag in Ivory Creative Inspirations Paint before I stamped it to add some extra shimmer. I distressed the edges with a little Gold and Evergreen CI paint.

I sponged the edges of the card with Ivory and Gold Creative Inspirations Paint. I layered the pretty Prima flower on to a cream crochet flower and some seam binding. I really like how this card turned out.

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #14

Another brilliant sketch this week from the Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge blog AND a preview of one of the NEW stamp sets being released tomorrow at Waltzingmouse Stamps!!! There are five sets being released, just wait until you see them all, wow!! Ok, so here's my interpretation of the sketch, I flipped it around and made the box a bit bigger.

This is just a little sample of the Teeny Trees Stamp set by Waltzingmouse Stamps, there are so many different elements in this set, just wait until you see it tomorrow!! I went with an Autumnal theme, not my usual color choice but I like how it turned out.

Here's a close up of the trees, luckily I had some quilling papers in similar tones so I made a few quilled trees to go with the stamped ones. I added some stitching on the sewing machine to add some depth to my little scene. I paper pieced some textured mulberry paper at the bottom.

How cute are these little bird stamps, there's two in the set, each facing a different direction. I used Lemon Yellow Impress Ink and Ink it Up Chocolate Brown to stamp the tree tops and trunks. I quilled some simple pegs and coils from yellow and orange quilling strips for the quilled tree.

I added the other little birdie into one of the stamped trees to complete the Autumn scene. The quilled tree is a large coil pinched at the top into a teardrop shape.

A detail from the pretty bow, I painted some pale lemon seam binding with Buttercup Creative Inspirations Paint. I layered a little button and some natural twine on top of that. The sentiment is also from the new Teeny Trees stamp set by Waltzingmouse Stamps. I added some pleated card at the bottom of the card.

Pretty Things Jar Swap!!!

This was my first time taking part in a Jar Swap, wow was I glad I did!! Hosted by the City Crafter Blog. I was paired up with Kirsty Vittetoe, the organizer of the swap. I was so delighted to be paired with Kirsty because I just love her style. Her cards are always gorgeous and full of shabby goodness. I was so excited when I received my jar, I couldn't wait to dip in to it! It was full of my favorite colors!!

One of my favorite things in the jar was this 'Oh sooo cute' little mouse, he has a permanent place on my key ring now!! I love the sweet floral print fabric, just perfect! Thank you Kirsty!!

There were so many lovely things in the jar and better still, things I didn't have. I'll be dipping into my jar regularly when card making!! Kirsty also sent me a lovely hand made card, so pretty. I really enjoyed the swap, I hope there's more in the future!! Thanks again Kirsty!!!

Card Patterns - Sketch 80 (Guest Designer)

I'm so excited and honored to be Guest Designer this week at Card Patterns!! I was so delighted to be in the Super Six for Sketch 78 and to have my card chosen as card of the week, wow!! I'm so grateful!! So, here is this week's sketch, Sketch 80, a lovely layout! Here's my take on the sketch.

I just love the papers in the 7Gypsies Conservatory Collection, so much to look at!! All the papers I used here are from that collection. I added a little pleated cream dress lining fabric and some twine. I distressed the edges of the card with Tim Holtz Antique Linen Distress Ink. The stamped sentiment is from Sweethearts at Waltzingmouse Stamps. I added a little oatmeal color crochet flower and touch of seam binding. I hope you play along this week, it's a super sketch!!

Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge #13

A new sketch challenge from Waltzingmouse Stamps Challenge blog, I have to admit I did find this one a little tricky, a bit geometric for me maybe. Anyway, I gave it my best shot and this is what I came up with. 

Yea, like I said, tricky, I kind of evolved the sketch a little! To try and make it work : ) Anyway the lovely paper is from 7Gypsies Conservatory collection. I made the flower using this tutorial and card from the Mariposa Stack DCWV.

I painted the white side of the card with a mix of Beige and Gold Creative Inspirations Paint. The flower shape I used is from Paper Flower Templates Set 1 - The Cutting Files at The Digichick.

The lovely stamped sentiment is from the Sweethearts set by Waltzingmouse Stamps. I used Chocolate Brown Ink It Up to stamp it. I distressed the edges with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Antique Linen.

I hope you can see it but I stamped behind the flower. I stamped the circle motif from Victorian Fripperie by Waltzingmouse Stamps in Versamark Ink and embossed it with some Mirror Gold embossing powder.

Monochrome

The DT challenge for the Creative Inspirations Paint blog this week is Monochrome and to use ribbon or lace. I made a large tag and focused on layers and textures. I used some of the gorgeous papers from the Fabrications Classic Paper Pack by Quirky Twerp at the Digichick.

I used Coal Creative Inspirations Paint to stamp the motif border onto some black sheet foam. The stamp is from Victorian Fripperie by Waltzingmouse Stamps. I also cut out a little butterfly from black foam and painted it with Coal Creative Inspirations Paint. I cut another butterfly from some of the Fabrications Classic Paper.

I painted some mesh ribbon with Onyx Creative Inspiration Paint, I layered that on to some more paper from Fabrications Classic Paper Pack that I distressed with Coal CI paint. I added a touch of lace and a little black crochet flower under the butterfly.
