CARD PATTERNS - Sketch 163

Saturday, April 28, 2012

I hope you're having a fabulous weekend! Just popping in with my Card Patterns card. Here's this week's sketch! I flipped it on it's side for my card.

I interpreted the banner in the sketch using a little piece of lace, there was a lot going on with all the flowers already!

I made the big flower using the shabby spiral flower technique (tutorial here) but I left out the fringing, it made a nice big rose. Yes, I will get around to the leaf tutorial soon! I'm just very busy at the moment! It's on my list!

The sentiment is from a retired stamp set from Layers of Color by Nina B Designs. The pretty White Guipure lace is from the Craft Fairy. The Spring Green Chiffon/Organza ribbon is also from the Craft Fairy.

The two smaller flowers are from Wild Orchid Crafts. The Blossom Baker's Twine is from The Twinery.

The green paper is from Random by Crate Paper and I embossed it using the Swiss Dots embossing folder. Don't forget to visit the Card Patterns blog to see the rest of the creations from the design team.

I'm hoping to spend a little time in the garden tomorrow, it's supposed to be dry. It's been so wet recently I want to make the most of it! Isabelle will help me sow some more flower seeds. Here's hoping it's not too chilly! I want to move some of my seedlings out into the cold frame (they're currently in Isabelle's playhouse, which she want's back!). So we'll have to do a bit of spring cleaning in there and evict any lurking spiders!

SRM Stickers and The Twinery feature

Thursday, April 26, 2012

SRM Stickers and The Twinery have teamed up for a fun 2 day feature! I had so much fun creating with all the fabulous Baker's Twine The Twinery sent me (they were very generous!). SO I made a cheery hot air balloon card!

I used a sentiment from Sticker Sentiments - Life is Good from SRM Stickers. I was delighted to find the  sweet scalloped border sticker from We've Got Your Border - Thank You was a perfect color match for the Lemondrop Baker's Twine from The Twinery.

For the hot air balloon I drew a simple balloon shape with stripes, glued each section at a time and added the twine (starting from the outside). I used some really bright and cheery colors of Baker's Twine, Lemondrop, Pink Sorbet and Caribbean. To attach the balloon to the basket I used some Cappuccino Baker's Twine from The Twinery. To the top of the little basket I added some more of the scalloped border sticker We've Got Your Border - Thank You from SRM Stickers.

The background cloud paper (Silver Lining Vellum) is from the Neapolitan Collection by Dear Lizzy from American Crafts. I was just finished this card and I felt it was missing something, so I added the little swirls with a black liner pen just to add some movement to the card!

Pop over to the SRM Stickers blog to see what the rest of the SRM Stickers DT created using SRM Stickers and Baker's Twine from The Twinery. There's some great prizes up for grabs, GO check it out!
Oh and don't forget to visit The Twinery's Blog to see what their DT has done with SRM! Have fun! : )

CASE Study #88 - Hello

April just flew by and we're on our last week at CASE Study with Laurie Schmidlin as our muse already, she's been such an inspiration! Here's Laurie's card this week. It's a stunner!

I CASEd the embossed and inked background, the fab layout, rounded corners and use of flowers in Laurie's card.

I stamped the dress form using the Sew Lovely stamp set by Nina B Designs from The Crafts Meow in Coffee archival ink. The paper pieced papers are from Miss Caroline Howdy Doody by My Mind's Eye. The sentiment is from a retired Layers of Color stamp set.

The pretty flowers and lace are from Wild Orchid Crafts, I used some white seam binding and Buttercream Baker's twine from The Twinery. The Powder Blue Pearl Trinket pin is from my Etsy shop.

Pop over to the CASE Study blog to see the fabulous creations from the rest of the Design Team. Oh and we have a sponsor this week, My Creative Classroom is offering a free seat to a class of the winner's choice. Good luck! I'll be back later with my card for the SRM Stickers and The Twinery 2 day event!

SRM Stickers - Birthday Party Duo

Monday, April 23, 2012

I made this fun and cute little party invitation and tube favor for a 5th birthday for the SRM Stickers blog. I used one of the border stickers sets and chopped them up to create different elements in my card.

I used We've Got Your Border - Birthday and chopped up some of the banner stickers to make the kite tail. The number 5 is from Say it With Stickers Mini - 5th Birthday from SRM Stickers.

The dotty background paper I used on the kite I made using the same border sticker set, teamed with some red card. The cloud patterned paper is a vellum from the Neapolitan Dear Lizzy Collection by American Crafts. The twine is Lemondrop twine from The Twinery.

Inside the invitation I made a border frame again using We've Got Your Border - Birthday and some red card, the invite sticker is from You're Invited - Blank Invite from SRM Stickers. I cut up the dotty border sticker to make the background paper. The sticker on top of the dots is from Say It With Stickers Mini -5th Birthday.

I repeated the theme on The MINI Tube and decorated it with stickers from We've Got Your Border - Birthday and Say It With Stickers Mini - 5th Birthday. Later in the week SRM Stickers is teaming up with The Twinery for a fun feature. You won't want to miss it! : )

Other supplies used:
Cardstock: Yellow, White, Red card.
Patterned Paper: (Silver Lining Vellum, Neapolitan Dear Lizzy) American Crafts
Embossing Folder: (Seeing Spots) Provo Craft
Twine: (Lemondrop) The Twinery

CARD PATTERNS - Sketch 162

Saturday, April 21, 2012

This week at Card Patterns our sponsor is Sparkle Creations. The design team were sent some stamps to work with. I used Charlotte with a Rose on my card. Here's this week's sketch.

I turned the sketch on it's side to suit the stamp. I'm not a big fan of coloring stamps so I paper-pieced some areas with some Miss Caroline papers from My Mind's Eye. The other parts I colored with acrylic paints.

The Green Twill is from the Craft Fairy and the Buttercream Baker's Twine is from The Twinery.

The pretty Scalloped White Lace is also from the Craft Fairy. The little die cut tag is from Spellbinders Home Sweet Home by Nina B Designs. The sentiment is from Sew Lovely from The Crafts Meow (I masked a section of it). Don't forget to visit the Card Patterns blog to see the rest of the creations from the DT. I hope you're having a lovely weekend!

CASE Study #87 - Happy Birthday

Thursday, April 19, 2012

It's our third week with Laurie Schmidlin as our muse at CASE Study. I can hardly believe we're nearly into May already! Time just seems to fly! Here's Laurie's inspiration card this week.

Laurie's fab card is quite bold and graphic. I love the wood grain patterned paper Laurie used, the rounded corners, staple details and simple sentiment. I chose to CASE these elements in my card.

The wood grain patterned paper I used is from Miss Caroline Dolled Up from My Mind's Eye. I used one of the lovely sentiment stickers from Fancy Sticker Sentiment - Birthday by SRM Stickers.

The sweet floral patterned paper is from Miss Caroline Howdy Doody by My Mind's Eye. The lovely white Guipure lace and sweet Cream and Yellow flower are both from the Craft Fairy. The blue flower is from Wild Orchid Crafts. I also added some Buttercream Baker's Twine from The Twinery.

I also added a little staple detail. They usually work better in groups of two or three, they're a fun detail to play with.

Don't forget to visit the CASE Study blog to see the wonderful creations from the Design Team. We're looking forward to the weekend, Isabelle's taking part in her first ballet show! (Three shows over the weekend, I think she'll be pretty tired!) She's so excited!

SRM Stickers - Mother's Day Project

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

Hi! I've a Mother's Day Project over at the SRM Stickers Blog today. I had so much fun making this one! I made a bouquet of paper flowers (Shabby rolled spiral flower tutorial here) and matching card. There's a few hidden surprises in the watering can too!

I decorated the can using a large 'Mother' sticker from Express Yourself - Mother's Day, the text under that is from Say it With Stickers - Mother's Day and the little green border sticker at the bottom is from We've Got Your Border - Baby Boy, all from SRM Stickers.

Hidden inside the bouquet are some tubes of sweets (a few licorice allsorts here!), the rest of the flowers are wired. The stickers at the bottom of the tubes are from Quick Cards - MotherI also used some Spring Green Chiffon Ribbon from the Craft Fairy to decorate the tops.

I used a little bit of Cantaloupe Baker's Twine from The Twinery to attach my little tag to the watering can.

For the card I made a smaller version of the flower and used stickers from Express Yourself - Mother's Day and We've Got Your Border - Baby Boy. I also used some Spring Green Chiffon Ribbon from the Craft Fairy. SO, don't forget to pop by the SRM Stickers blog today if you get a chance.

Other supplies used:
Cardstock: lemon, white, orange, pink, green
Patterned Paper: (Sweet Nectar) K&Co
Dies: (Foliage) Spellbinders
Fibers: (Cantaloupe Baker's Twine) The Twinery, (16mm Chiffon Ribbon - Spring Green) Craft Fairy

Waltzingmouse Stamps April Blog Party!!

Tuesday, April 17, 2012

It's April 17th, that means it's time for another Waltzingmouse Stamps Blog Party!! This month's theme is New Beginnings. I went with new beginnings in the garden, so I made a Spring garden card! I think I'm longing to be out in the garden, it's so wet and windy here, more like October than April! So it's not that much fun being outside. Ok, here's my flower garden card!

I used the flowers from Pic-Nic Patterns and Nordic Spring from Waltzingmouse Stamps to make my flower garden. For the foliage I used VersaMagic Oasis Green and for the flowers I used Memento Tangelo, Memento Rose Bud and Impress Lemon Yellow.

I simply cut around the flowers and propped them up on some foam pads. The green Chiffon ribbon (under the flowers) and pink Saddle Stitch Grosgrain Ribbon are both from the Craft Fairy.

I stamped the plaid using Off Beat Backgrounds and VersaMagic Magnolia Bud and Persimmon ink.

The sentiment is from Spring Baskets, (I love that font combo, so sweet), stamped in Jet Black archival ink.

I hope you're enjoying the blog party and have a chance to make something! You have 24 hours to upload your creations to Claire's blog - Waltzingmouse Makes. Have fun! : )

Nina B Designs - 2nd Blog Hop!

Sunday, April 15, 2012

Welcome to the NinaB Designs's 2nd blog hop! We had a great time last month and we just want to thank you for your enthusiasm and encouraging words. The NBD team has new projects to show you today featuring NinaB Designs Spellbinders™ Paper Arts (Home Sweet Home and Sewing Elements), The Craft's Meow Stamps, and Want2Scrap bling.

We have added a new twist to our hop. Not only do we have tons of inspiration for you, but we also are joining in the Crafty Friends' challenge that you can participate in. And of course, there will be prizes up for grabs! You will find more info below.

For my project I focused on the flower dies in the Spellbinders Home Sweet Home set. When I was looking at them I thought they're just the right shape for hydrangea flowers. I hadn't made a hydrangea flower before but I was dying to have a go! So I made a card and matching gift box featuring one of my favorite flowers the blue hydrangea.

I did have a bit of a search in blogland for any tutorials on how to go about making these flowers and I stumbled upon one that inspired me at Kittie Kraft. Kittie used a lot of smaller punched flowers on her hydrangeas and they look fabulous, the flower dies in the Spellbinders Home Sweet Home set are a bit larger so I didn't need as many pieces. To achieve the height I used a series of circles layered on top of one another with foam tape and then attached the individual flowers.

On the card I used a combo of the large flower die around the two outer layers and the smaller flower die for the centre. I used the top of a pen and a foam mat to shape each flower into a cupped shape. The gorgeous bling on this card is from Classy Corners - Class by Nina Brackett at Want2Scrap. The sentiment on the card is from one of Nina's retired stamp sets from Layers of Color.

I didn't have the exact shade of blue card I wanted to make the blue hydrangeas so I mixed up some acrylic paint and painted some sheets of white card (front and back), left to dry, then die cut the flowers. For the leaves, I cut a simple leaf shape from green card, scored down the middle, then pinched and twisted the veins with a tweezers. (I think I'll have to do a little tutorial!) I inked the tops of the leaves with Antique Linen Distress Ink.

It's important that the circles you layer the flowers onto are the same color so you can't see them. I love the dimension of these flowers!

I made a simple white box and decorated the top with some little bits left over from the Classy Corners - Class from Want2Scrap and the sides with Beautiful Bling Borders - Fancy Waves from Want2Scrap.

These borders really add a special touch to projects and I love how you can trim the pieces you want. They go such a long way!

For this smaller flower I only used the smaller flower die from the Spellbinders Home Sweet Home set.

The little tag is from the same set and I stamped it with a stamp from the Sew Lovely set from The Crafts Meow. It's the 'Made for you from the heart stamp' but I masked the bits I didn't need. I also added a little bit of left over bling from the Classy Corners - Class set from Want2Scrap.
